FAQ 1138: VESTING: Alternate Vesting an old grandfathered and a new schedule

Problem: What is the best way to set up a plan to have one vesting schedule for those employed as of a certain date and another vesting schedule for those employed thereafter?

Solution: We do have options. First, the current vesting schedule should be posted to the Primary field in Plan Specs, this will take care of current and future participants. Secondly, for the past “those employed as of a certain date” if you are able to establish who belongs to this group use this schedule in the Plan Specs-General-Vesting-TOPHVEST screen, for the Alternate schedule. Assign it in Plan Specs and then align this schedule with applicable employees by making an election on their NAME screen, bottom above the OK button, “Elected Alternate Vesting” YES.
