FAQ 508: Reports--Printing age-weighted calculations for audit

Problem:

We have an age-weighted plan that is being audited by the IRS and they would like to see the breakdown of how the system calculated the allocation.

Is there some type of report that I can run that will give them this information?

Solution:

The Schedule of Contributions and Forfeitures page of the standard valuation report (not the reporter report) shows the age-weighted factors that the system uses to come up with the allocation. You can print the support page of the 401(a)(4) test to see further detail on how these factors were derived. You should also note the following allocation order for age-weighted plans:

1. Allocates first according to factors
2. "Tops up" anyone necessary for top-heavy minimum and reallocates
3. Cuts back for 415 and reallocates
