FAQ 945: Plan sponsor folder has a Thumb.db file

Problem:

Testing access to files in plan sponsor folders. Files display, but there is an additional file called Thumb.db. When viewing in \User\Sponsor\Public (or Sponsor ID), it does not show. What is this?

Solution:

Here is information on the Thumb file in your plan sponsor folders. The "thumb.db" file is a Windows feature that stores the thumbnail of image files (like .pdf) each time Windows Explorer stores a new one in a folder, for later quick access. It is considered a hidden system file.

It can be un-hidden using the Explorer Folder Options, thus allowing them to be viewed for deletion. To avoid these files from being generated in the future, in Folder Options - check the box that says, "Do not cache thumbnails"
