FAQ 1077: Global masking of Social Security Numbers

Problem: Our current global ASC default is to show the full Social Security Number on all reports. Is there a setting to to change the default to mask all the Social Security numbers?

Solution: Add the setting SSNOPTION= to the [ASC] subsection of the file ASC.INI in the ASC folder followed by the following letters: =M is for mask the SSN and only show the last 4 digits =Y to show the complete SSN =N to not show SSN at all =E to use the Employee Number field in place of SSN If the default setting is changed when printing a report for a client, that setting will become the default for that report for that client until the dialog data is reset in Access-Dialog Data.
