FAQ 614: HCE--Owner with 80% ownership not being counted as HCE

Problem: An 80% owner is not being coded as an HCE by the HCE determination program.

Solution: Code the 80% in both the "Ownership Pct" field on the Name and Identification screen of the employee's record, and in the "Ownership Pct" field in the history record for the prior plan year (under the "Ext A" button). The system defaults to looking at the prior plan year, and most likely the 80% is not coded in the prior year history record.
