FAQ 156: Error 901 Transaction entry already exists message trying to add new transactions

Problem:

I keep getting the following message when trying to add a new type 2 (contribution) transaction:

"Error=901 Msg=Cannot create new transaction cannot create new record:Entry already exits"

This happens when I try to import via Ascript and also when trying to enter the transaction directly in the employee screen. "Entry already exists" implies what it states, but the entry does not already exist. Any ideas?



Solution:

Try resetting the transaction pointers and try it again. Sometimes the "pointer" that tells the system what the next available transaction number/key is gets out of whack and needs to be reset. To reset the pointers, choose Utilities-Transactions-Reset C(14) Pointer and click "OK" to reset the pointers on all employees. Then you should be able to input new transactions for employees.
