FAQ 2211: Making Ascript VIF files Read-Only

Problem:

Hi,
We had a situation recently where a team member accidentally overrode a VIF template we saved for our team. Is there a way to make the VIF read only or password protected so it doesn't get altered in error? We are going to save a back-up copy, but looking for solutions to prevent this in the future.

Solution:

You can make a VIF file "Read-only" in your windows file browser, right click on the file and check the Attributes: Read-only and Apply. This cannot be done from within ASC Ascript, it will need to be applied to the file after its been created. However, when a user is prompted to save a change they made to the file, they will get an Error=1009:Msg=Cannot open file:Procedure=Create:Error=Permission denied. The file can still be used to import.
