FAQ 79: Steps for copying a report from one file to another

Problem:

I would like to know how I can copy the CSHBLEOY report in the DB.RMS file in the \ASC\REPORTS directory into the DB.RMS in our \ASC\USER directory.

Solution:

Our first suggestion would be to name the DB.RMS file in the \ASC\USER directory something other than the standard name, so that you can easily differentiate between the two files. That way, you should be able to easily tell the two files apart, and you shouldn't ever run into the possible situation of making changes to the wrong file. That is just a suggestion, though, it is ultimately up to you.

To copy the CSHBLEOY report from the DB.RMS file in the \ASC\REPORTS directory to your file in the \ASC\USER directory, you would do the following:

First we need to determine the report number of the report that you wish to copy:
- From the ASC Main Menu, choose "Access" and "Reporter Specifications".
- From the REPTSPEC menu, choose "File" and "Open".
- Change to the \ASC\REPORTS directory, choose the DB.RMS file as the file to use, and click "Open".
- Once the file is chosen, choose "File" and "Open Report".
- Scroll down the list and make a note of the report number that you wish to copy into the file in the \ASC\USER directory. In the case of the CSHBLEOY report, it should be report number 16.

Then to copy the report, do the following:
- From the REPTSPEC menu, choose "File" and "Open".
- Change to the \ASC\USER directory, choose the file that you wish to copy into, and click "Open".
- Once the file is chosen, choose "File" and "Open Report".
- Scroll to the bottom of the list of reports and make a note of the next available report number.
- Once you know what the next available report number is, choose "File" and "Copy Report".
- Click on the magnifying glass to the right of the "Find File" box, change to the \ASC\REPORTS directory, choose the DB.RMS file, and click on the "Open" button.
- Then input the report number (e.g. 16) in both "From Reports" boxes and input the next available report number in the "to Report" box, and click "OK" to copy the report.

That should then copy that report from one file to another.
