FAQ 143: 5500 - Final 5500-EZ for 2025 on 2024 form

Problem:

If I am filing a final 5500-EZ for 2025, can I use the 2024 form and mark the short year and enter the year (eg. 1/1/25 - 4/30/25)?

Solution:

Per the IRS agent, you are to use the current form available e.g. 2024 Form 5500EZ for filing the 2025 short plan year.

As a reminder, you can create additional 5500-EZ forms in DGEM by selecting "New 5500 Form" under the Manage Plan Document - Create New Document section and then choose the "5500EZ" form and the available form year. The fiscal year end date range should match the current filing period. You should then edit the plan number to the plan's correct plan number in the checklist so it will print the correct plan number on the report.

You can also enter the year, i.e."2025" under the Form Identifier field so users can filter those 5500-EZ forms for that plan year under the FIND screen.
