FAQ 174: 8955-SSA - Steps to transmit FIRE filing through DGEM

Problem: We are new to the DGEM program and we are interested in transmitting 8955-SSA data to FIRE within DGEM. What are the steps?

Solution: Users can electronically file 8955-SSA FIRE through DGEM and submit "Valid" filings one at a time or in batch under the Find screen. It is important the "Enable FIRE file" box is checked on the 8955-SSA checklist. 8955-SSA FIRE filing from DGEM to FIRE steps: o Go to the Find screen o Select the Document Type as "8955-SSA"; fill out any filter questions; and click Next o Select the 8955-SSA form and under the drop down option choose "Transmit FIRE filing". Filing must be in Valid status. o FIRE file is submitted to the IRS's FIRE site o The filing status will be transmitted back to DGEM once it has been approved by the IRS SPS notification emails are sent to TPA email address registered in DGEM. The filings will receive the following status - Good, Released; Good, Not Released; Released with Errors; Errors; Submitted to FIRE; and Superseded
