FAQ 9: How can I save a text file as an excel spreadsheet? |
Problem: I would like to save an exported file from DGEM in an excel spreadsheet. |
Solution: To save a text file as an Excel file, open Excel and select 'File' -> 'Open'. At the bottom of the dialog box that opens, select file type 'All Files (*.*)' or 'Text Files (*.prn;*.txt;*.csv)'. Select the exported text file from the list above and click 'Open'. At this point, a conversion wizard should open. Follow the instructions in the wizard. (You may want to set the type of the plan number column to 'text' in step 3 of the wizard to avoid truncating leading zeros in this column.) Once the file is open, select 'File' -> 'Save as' from the menu, and save the file as filetype 'Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls)'. Use <ctrl><end> to find the last column in the Excel file. |
